Niger

The Al Madad Foundation sent Dawton and McFarlane to Niger to help raise awareness and raise funds to help the victims of the famine that ravaged the country in 2006. Niger was already the poorest country in the world; people’s daily lives are equal to those who live in the world’s worst conflict zones. One hospital Dawton and McFarlane visited had a ratio of 1 doctor and 4 nurses to 350,000 people. That would mean that a country the size of Australia would have less than 100 doctors. The hospitals were eerily quiet not chaotic, as most people in Niger couldn’t afford the 6 Euro consultation fee. The people you see in the pictures are the lucky ones.
