Gaza Anti-Portraits

When soldiers die in conflicts we see their stories on television. We see their school graduation photos; their wedding photos and Prime Ministers attend their funerals. What of the civilian war victims? We aren’t told their names and often their numbers aren’t even counted. These images are a visual metaphor for the faceless victims of war. Are they looking towards the future or have they turned their backs on us? The series ends with two images where the subject is turned towards the camera. A phosphorous bomb blinded the boy, he can’t see. The girl has her eyes shut, she won’t see. Is it because she has seen too much?
